    Understand the next step

Assess the damage.
Understand the cause.
Plan the repair.

A focused repair starts with the cause.

A cracked tile, loose section or patch of damaged grout does not always mean the whole area needs replacing. The first step is understanding the damage and the condition of the surrounding tiles.

We discuss individual tile replacement, small-area repairs, shower regrouting and silicone replacement where suitable. Tiles affected by plumbing access can also be assessed once the plumbing work is complete.

A hollow or ‘drummy’ sound can indicate a loss of bond beneath a tile, although the cause needs assessment. Repeated cracking, movement or moisture may require work beyond a surface repair.

Careful preparation.
Attention to detail.
  • Cracked & loose tiles

    Local tile replacement where suitable

  • Grout & shower regrouting

Refresh deteriorated joints in existing tiled areas

  • Silicone & resealing

Replace worn joints and discuss suitable resealing

Repair what is needed. Explain the options.

A useful repair plan considers both the visible damage and what may be happening beneath it. We discuss the available tiles, the surrounding finish and the limits of a local repair.

  • Check cracked, loose or drummy tiles and surrounding joints
  • Discuss matching tiles and any spare material available
  • Remove and replace deteriorated grout or silicone where appropriate
  • Explain when underlying issues need attention before finishing

Tile Repairs & Regrouting FAQs

Ask a question

An individual tile can often be replaced if it can be removed without causing wider damage and a suitable replacement is available. Matching the original colour, size and finish may not always be possible.

Deteriorated grout can be removed and replaced where the tiles and underlying surface remain suitable. Loose tiles or continuing movement need to be considered before regrouting.

Possible causes include a loss of bond, movement in the supporting surface or problems with the original preparation. A hollow sound alone does not establish the cause; the area needs assessment.

Shower regrouting can refresh damaged or worn grout where the tiled area is suitable. Regrouting and silicone replacement do not repair a failed waterproofing layer or a plumbing fault.

Small areas opened for plumbing work can be assessed for repair once the plumbing is complete. The backing surface, any affected waterproofing and the availability of matching tiles all influence the scope.

Bathroom Tiling may be more suitable when a bathroom has widespread loose tiles, damaged backing or needs a broader renovation. We discuss the condition of the area before recommending the scope.
